Product Description
The Roadmaster 521196-5 is a direct-connect (EZ5-style) base plate kit made for the 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma. A base plate mounts to the towed vehicle's frame behind the front bumper and gives a motorhome-mounted tow bar a strong, vehicle-specific attachment point for flat towing. This design eliminates the quick-disconnect crossbar: any Roadmaster motorhome-mounted tow bar attaches directly to the bracket's removable arms. Roadmaster notes this bracket is designed for heavier vehicles.
The brackets use a spring-loaded locking system that lets them sit recessed for a clean, uncluttered look when you're not towing. The front arms click into place as they're rotated into position; to remove them, pull the ring and twist the arm 90 degrees. Safety cable anchor tabs accept a snap hook, so safety cables can connect directly to the bracket, and there's a built-in mounting point for the electrical socket. Installation notes from the manufacturer: the bumper fascia must be removed and reinstalled, and some minor drilling is required.

Pro tipBefore you order a base plate
- Match year, make, model and trim. Base plates are vehicle-specific, and trims with adaptive cruise, front sensors or a different bumper often need a different plate.
- Confirm your vehicle can be flat towed. Check the “recreational towing” section of the owner’s manual — not every car, transmission or drivetrain can be towed four-down.
- Mixing brands needs an adapter. Base plate and tow bar brands use different connection styles (for example, a Blue Ox base plate with a Roadmaster tow bar). We’ll tell you exactly which adapter you need.
