Product Description

The Roadmaster 521196-4 is an EZ4 Series crossbar-style base plate kit made for the 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma. A base plate mounts to the towed vehicle's frame behind the front bumper and gives the tow bar a strong, vehicle-specific attachment point for flat towing. With the crossbar style, a removable crossbar attaches to the base plate and the tow bar connects to the crossbar.

The EZ4 brackets use a spring-loaded locking system that lets them sit recessed for a clean, uncluttered look when you're not towing. The front arms click into place as they're rotated into position; to remove them, pull the ring and twist the arm 90 degrees. The brackets also have a built-in mounting point for the electrical socket. Installation note from the manufacturer: the bumper fascia must be removed and reinstalled during installation.

Compatibility

  • 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma
  • For use with tow bars and accessories that require a crossbar

Fitment can vary by trim, bumper and options. If your motorhome-mounted tow bar connects directly to the base plate, the direct-connect version (521196-5) is the usual choice. Contact us with your vehicle and tow bar model if you're unsure.

Pro tipBefore you order a base plate

  • Match year, make, model and trim. Base plates are vehicle-specific, and trims with adaptive cruise, front sensors or a different bumper often need a different plate.
  • Confirm your vehicle can be flat towed. Check the “recreational towing” section of the owner’s manual — not every car, transmission or drivetrain can be towed four-down.
  • Mixing brands needs an adapter. Base plate and tow bar brands use different connection styles (for example, a Blue Ox base plate with a Roadmaster tow bar). We’ll tell you exactly which adapter you need.
