Product Description
The Demco 8550023 is an 18K Autoslide fifth wheel hitch for above-bed mounting on bed rails (Demco's Ultra Series mounting system). The Autoslide head slides back automatically as you make a tight turn, up to 14" of travel, so a short-bed truck can turn sharply without the trailer's nose hitting the cab, and there's no getting out to pull a pin and slide the hitch by hand. If you already have a Demco Hijacker Ultra Series manual-slide or stationary hitch, this Autoslide can drop into the same mounting system.
It's rated for 18,000 lb gross trailer weight and 4,500 lb pin weight. The wrap-around jaw with locking bar holds the kingpin securely, three height positions help level the truck and trailer, and the slide works on standard pin boxes without a locking plate.
Compatibility
- Above-bed rail installation; a vehicle-specific installation (bracket) kit is required, sold separately
- Standard kingpin boxes (no locking plate needed)
- Some air-ride or cushioned pin boxes (such as Glide Ride, MOR/ryde or Trailair) require a locking plate, sold separately
Never exceed the lowest rating among your truck, hitch, rails and trailer. Contact us with your truck year, make, model and bed length so we can confirm the right installation kit.

Pro tipChoosing a fifth wheel hitch
- Know your truck’s prep. Ford, Ram and GM factory puck systems use different mounts than universal rails.
- Rate it for the trailer’s GVWR, not its empty weight, and make sure pin weight fits your truck’s payload.
- Short-bed truck? You may need a slider hitch or offset pin box for turning clearance.
