Product Description
The Demco 8550022 is an 18K Autoslide fifth wheel hitch for Demco's UMS (under-bed mounting system). The Autoslide head slides back automatically as you make a tight turn, up to 14" of travel, so a short-bed truck can turn sharply without the trailer's nose hitting the cab, and there's no getting out to pull a pin and slide the hitch by hand. With the UMS system, the hitch lifts out and leaves the truck bed clear when you're not towing.
It's rated for 18,000 lb gross trailer weight and 4,500 lb pin weight. The wrap-around jaw with locking bar holds the kingpin securely, three height positions help level the truck and trailer, and the slide works on standard pin boxes without a locking plate.
Compatibility
- Trucks with a Demco UMS under-bed mount; requires the vehicle-specific Demco fifth wheel mount kit, sold separately
- Standard kingpin boxes (no locking plate needed)
- Glide Ride, MOR/ryde, Rota-Flex, Trailair Tri-Glide, Trailair Flex-Air and 5th Airborne pin boxes require a locking plate, sold separately
Never exceed the lowest rating among your truck, hitch, mount and trailer. Contact us with your truck year, make, model and bed length so we can confirm the right mount kit.

Pro tipChoosing a fifth wheel hitch
- Know your truck’s prep. Ford, Ram and GM factory puck systems use different mounts than universal rails.
- Rate it for the trailer’s GVWR, not its empty weight, and make sure pin weight fits your truck’s payload.
- Short-bed truck? You may need a slider hitch or offset pin box for turning clearance.
