Pro tipSupplemental braking: what to know

  • Often required by law. Most U.S. states and Canadian provinces require brakes on a towed vehicle above a certain weight, and towing equipment makers generally expect one.
  • Match your motorhome. Some systems are designed for coaches with air brakes and others for hydraulic brakes — check which your RV has.
  • Portable vs. permanently installed. Portable units move between cars; installed systems are quicker to hook up day to day.

Product Description

Keep your supplemental braking system working the way it should. Genuine parts deliver a direct fit and dependable stopping power for your towed vehicle.

A Brake Pressure Reducer allows you to install Brake Master in hybrids or any other vehicle with a full-time ('active') power braking system. Most air-powered supplemental braking systems are designed to work on a 'dead' brake pedal. This means they press harder on the brake pedal. But some late model vehicles retain power brakes even when the ignition is off. This is known as 'active' or full-time power braking. The Brake Pressure Reducer regulates the high pressure down to prevent over-braking, lock-ups or flat spotting of the tires. Although designed for the Brake Master, the Brake Pressure Reducer will work with other supplemental braking systems which use pressurized air to brake the towed vehicle.
